Tips on Adjusting Your Headlights

August 17, 2016 11:30 am

A major part of driving safely at night on your car is the headlights, which allow you to illuminate the road in front and navigate. One of the most vital parts of making sure that your headlights are working properly is knowing how to adjust them correctly. In most cases, the headlights will become shaken from their original location due to the continuous vibrations of the road. If this happens during a night drive, then you need to have the skill to get off your car and adjust them in a timely manner. The following are a few tips for adjusting your hid headlights pro.

Check the Manual

The first thing that you need to do is check the manual for your car and see what it says about how to adjust the headlights. You should be able to find out if you can adjust the headlights by hand or if you will need tools to do it. The user manual can be your guide that lets you know where the components are that adjusts your headlight. By neglecting to read the manual, you are putting yourself at a horrible disadvantage.

Using Point of Reference

Using a point of reference can help you greatly when you are trying to properly adjust your headlights. You need to start by making a mark around 20 to 25 feet away on a flat wall or garage door. This will give you a point to adjust to and get the lighting straight on your car. It may take a while to get the headlight adjusted just right, but it will be more than worth it when you are able to see during a night drive. You need to make sure that you fully understand how to adjust the headlight on your car before you start because without that knowledge you will just be spinning your wheels.

Headlight Screws

On most cars, you will be able to adjust the headlight by using screws that are underneath the light itself. It is a good idea to regularly tighten and loosen these screws every now and then to make sure that they do not get seized up. You need to use a spray lubricant when you do this to give the screws some lubrication. The more precautions you take, the better off you will be in the long run when it comes to adjusting your headlights.
