Solo Sports To Keep You Sane
Is the current situation wearing you down? If so, you’re not alone. Thankfully, though, there are dozens of solo activities out there that are both safe and can help keep you sane in these trying times.
Check them out below.
Running
If you’re feeling a little low at the moment, you might want to focus your energy towards running. Not only is it one of the best ways to get fit known to mankind, but it also releases feel-good hormones. After you go for a run, you’ll feel so much more energized and willing to take on life. In fact, it could be just the motivation you need to start a new project, find work, or get into shape.
Climbing
Climbing has always been a solo sport with niche appeal. Now, though, it is something that many people are considering. They want to pit themselves against rockfaces and experience the thrill that comes with it.
If you live in a hilly area, there are likely numerous outdoor locations where you can climb and abseil.
Surfing
While the government has put strict restrictions on the number of people you can spend time with, they haven’t banned all fun yet. And that means that you can go surfing solo on the seas.
The Wild Atlantic Surf Company lists some of the equipment you’ll need. A board is essential, of course. But you’ll also want things like a wetsuit, changing robes and clothing that makes you look the part. Getting the kit is easy. And once you have it, you can benefit from it for life, no matter how long the current situation lasts.
Mountain Biking
Mountain biking is one of the most thrilling solo sports out there. Once you have the kit, you can travel practically anywhere you like, explore the countryside, and get a real sense of the wild.
If you’re new to the sport, go to trail centres first. Here you’ll find graded routes, similar to those you find on a ski slope. Greens are the easiest – made for people who’ve never cycled off-road before. Blues are a little more challenging. Reds often feature steep climbs and technical descents. And blacks are for insane people with the best equipment.
Mountain biking is appealing because of how thrilling it is. If you haven’t experienced it before, it’s well worth giving it a go. You get to explore beautiful locations nobody else goes. And you can have the time of your life, descending down rocky, technical singletrack. There’s nothing quite like it.
Kayaking
If you’re a bit of a seadog but don’t own a yacht yet, you can start with kayaking.
When you go on your first whitewater experience, the level of upper body strength required can shock you. Over time, though, you get used to the physical demands and eventually have the confidence to go with the flow. And that’s when the real fun starts.
So there you have it: some thrilling solo sports options to keep you sane during the current crisis. It’s not ideal, but it could be the silver lining you’re looking for.
