Aiming For Influence In The Classroom? These Teaching Techniques Can Help

Being a teacher can be one of the most rewarding jobs in the world. Not only do you get to teach a subject that you have a lot of passion for, but you can also influence the minds of future generations. However, you can often find that your job is more testing at times than at others. This may be down to your classes, or even just sticking with a set teaching technique. So, while you’re planning lessons, you may want to think about the ways in which you can gain more interaction and engagement in the classroom.

Get Them Engaged From The Start

If you think about it, you may find that the tone of your lessons will be set from the start. It can be difficult to claw the attention back when you’ve not been able to get your students hooked from the start. So, the first thing you’re going to want to do to nail your classroom influence is work with a good warm up. Whether you want to get a group discussion going, or even start with some media and question and answers, you want to set a strong tempo at the beginning of the lesson so that you’re able to keep it up.

Use Media

Following on from this, you may also want to think about utilizing media within your lessons too. Media is often a strong prop to help engage your students. Whether you look for an app development cost estimator to create something specific or go with interactive whiteboards with set software, you should find that changing up your media choices will allow you to get your students more engaged with your lessons.

Play With The Pace

Likewise, you may also want to think about mixing up the pace throughout your lesson. Even if you’re teaching something that you find interesting, if it’s remotely challenging, you may find that your students lose focus. However, if you’re able to switch things up between group dynamics and individual working, or even the methods of working, you should find that you’re more likely to keep their young minds engaged.

Try Student-Centered Learning

Even if you’ve never worked with it before, to help with your influence and engagement levels, you may want to consider working with student-centered learning. Although you are the teacher, and you will always lead your lessons, you may find that encouraging your students to take control of their own learning can help them to understand set subjects more. Passing on responsibility is also another key way to keep your students interested and engaged.

Make Homework A Part Of The Lesson

Finally, you may also want to think about bringing your homework options into the classroom for a bit of variety too. Whether your students are working on ongoing projects, or they have set work to complete at home and present back in class, you can often find that allowing students to control their work and share it with others is a great way for them to be more interactive in class, and for them to gain a better understanding of the topic you’re teaching.
