Taking A More Practical Approach To Staff Training

When staff training advice is given online, it often seems to be through the lens of training office or corporate staff. This is fine, of course, as these individuals require training too. But it’s only half of the story. There are vast employment categories outside of this, and their training can differ.

For instance, it’s unlikely that your restaurant staff will ever require public speaking courses in the near future. But they will certainly need to be trained regarding new regulation about food safety standards, learning how to correctly prepare some types of fish, or how to maintain the new ice machine you’ve had installed for hygiene purposes.

So – let’s take a practical approach to staff training, considering how to apply it carefully, and also with the reality that you can’t afford to send your whole team off to an adventure week in one go, or allow them to avoid working for a couple of weeks just to attend to a course. With that in mind, please consider:

Small, Practical Courses With Direct Training

Small practical courses can be tremendously valuable to companies that might not be able to schedule a week away, or may not see the value in that. For instance, if your staff member has to go and encounter a complex electrical task, then FSE High and Low Voltage Training can be the best investment, allowing them to complete a course, become tested on their knowledge, and then directly apply that insight in the safest way. This way, you can also better ensure training is individually applied to those who need it, rather than using it as a management platitude to keep people happy or busy.

Remote Training Where Required

Remote training is also a good way to go about certain tasks. Remote training can update staff with compliance, updates in the software they use, or universal measures that your firm cares about, such as the importance of diversity and the renewed measures you’re going to use to systemize that perspective. Remote training, even if that’s just hosting a video conference with your staff and instructing them on a particular task, or opting for remote course they can do in the, you’ll get even more flexibility here.

Course Credits & Personal Development

In some cases, you may inspire staff to undergo some of their own training, paid for via your own investment. This way, when staff take it upon themselves to better themselves career-wise, you’re there for them, and you can make use of these skills appropriately. Course credits with a provider can help them learn first aid in their own time, or qualify in the intermediate and advanced variants of compliance courses they have already met the standards of, but wish to continue. It’s not hard to see where the value in this lies.

With this advice, you’re sure to take a more practical approach to staff training, from now into the future. Moreover, staff will become more satisfied in their roles knowing that you provide this kind of development and skills training.
