Five Benefits Of Owning Chickens

May 6, 2020 10:20 am

Given that there are so many people out there who are researching how to own chickens, we thought we would make a list of all the benefits that chickens can bring you!

You may not have considered owning chickens before, but if you want to do more for the environment and eat free range fresh eggs, then chickens are the go-to. It’s very easy to get started with chickens, all you need to know is why you should go for it. So, let’s take a look at five benefits of owning chickens so you can own some yourself.

  1. You’ll Get Fresh Eggs. It’s the point we’ve already made but it’s such a good one, we’ll make it again! Farm fresh eggs taste better directly from the source. If you’re feeding and caring for chickens and they are laying eggs, it means that they are happy! You are in control of what they’re eating, and that means that you are able to ensure that they are in the perfect health. Chickens eat pellets and other vegetation, and you can shop with Little Peckers to know that they are getting the best feed. The happier the chickens, the more eggs they will lay. Give them plenty of space to roam, and you’ll enjoy big, healthy eggs!
  2. You Have A Natural Pest Control. Chickens love grains and other seeds, but they’re also lovers of the little bugs and worms all over your garden. Chickens are fed and the garden stays protected from pests. Breakfast is so much sweeter when you know you won’t be stepping in worms as you get the eggs in the garden!
  3. Chickens Offer Natural Compost. No one wants to deal with chicken poop, but it’s the best fertilizer that you could ever have! Put down straw and they’ll make it into soil very quickly. You can then fertilize the fruit and veggies in your garden, allowing you to have organic food with natural compost the whole time! The best bit? It’s free!
  4. You’ll Waste Less Food. If you have overflow from the food you grow in the garden, you’ll be able to feed the chickens and they’ll get more plump and happy! You can naturally dispose of your waste like stale bread and scraps and you’ll benefit from it massively. If you’re planning to eat the chickens eventually, they’ll be fatter and healthier over time with the extras they’ll eat.
  5. You Get New Friends. Okay, so you won’t be off for afternoon tea, but you’ll be able to gain some stress relief and amazing companionship from the chickens that you have in the garden. You can really fall in love with them as pets in the house, and they’ll offer you a calm companion in the garden.

These benefits to owning chickens are everything to be shouted about! Chickens offer you so much and you can really enjoy the benefits of them when you buy your own flock for the garden. Make sure that they’re housed well and you have meals and companionship for the future!
